As the demand for soft tissue augmentation has become tremendously popular, the incidence of complications has risen at par. Swelling, lumpiness, Tyndall effect, migration, and more rarely, infection may occur from fillers in any location and more often more noticeable in the periocular region, which is more unforgiving owing to the thinner tissues overlying the facial skeleton.
When filler-related complications are identified, treatment with Disolvase may be performed to dissolve the filler. Another important indication for Disolvase therapy is to dissolve fillers before surgical blepharoplasty, as the filler-induced soft tissue modulation may confound surgical planning.
Golden Rule of Disolvase
Contains Hyaluronidase, a family of enzymes intended to degrade hyaluronic acid (HA), are widely used in aesthetic medicine to increase drug diffusion and reverse the effects of HA filler injections. Disolvase is proven to dissolve subcutaneous nodules or to correct excessive quantities of injected filler. However, knowledge of the use, methods of application, and adverse effects of hyaluronidases is essential to the aesthetic practitioner.
Emergency Reversal
As soon as the practitioner suspects the blood supply has been compromised, typically due to pain and blanching in the injected area, the most priority step is to immediately discard the procedure. To prevent further arterial or venous occlusion and subsequent impending necrosis, the goal is to quickly restore blood flow to the affected area.
Disolvase being the most practical step to reverse the complications.
